AVRant #26: Life will find a way

October 31st, 2007

Does AVRant get glowing or angry mail from down under? I’ll give you a hint, it starts with an A. Clint has been turned to the darkside and it is all Dina and J’s fault (as far as Tom is concerned). Tom expands on how you should send in your music for the New Music Challenge. Will Leopard break Dina’s computer? That’s Tom’s theory. There is a brief interlude about gardening. Tom finally got Halo 3 and played it once. Surely, he’s experienced enough for a mini-review. Don’t worry, this game will come up again in future podcasts. Are the new high def audio formats (Dolby Digital +, Dolby TrueHD, DTS HD, DTS Master Audio, etc.) really better than regular old Dolby Digital or DTS formats? Tom weighs in. He also took a look at the difference between the picture on a Blu-ray disc versus DVD. Tom’s mad at Comcast, listen in to find out why. Tom talks about two of the HD shows he’s been watching – and two more different shows you could not find. Thanks for listening.

i watch heroes AND pushing daisies AND prison break… they are all almost exactly the same show, really… there are people who are dead, there are people who are alive, and there are people who used to be dead that are now alive, there is a pie shop (called the “pie hole”), and there is a prison, and there is a politician… note the trend (all things that start with the letter “p”). how much more alike could you get?

A didgeridoo was the word you were looking for Tom. Youtube it for some videos (the link below is for Dina).

Clint, you should have bought a Zune!! Not because it is a Microsoft thing, but because it has better sound quality than the iPod stuff. I personally haven’t heard the Nano, but the 30GB Zune sounds fantastic with uncompressed files. There is no roll off on the top end like there is with the iPods…

And to prove I am not just a Microsoft guy, I did buy a PS3. I don’t know if i like it yet, but it’s ok so far. I am picky with my game systems…

Dude, what the heck is PBR? We don’t watch bull riding in Iowa. At least I don’t. The only violent thing I flip by is the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Now, I don’t care to watch that either, but there’s something about watching a guy get punched in the face, then having his forehead split open, then watching the blood pour out… All in glorious HD! I can’t believe people do that, but if they want to kick the crap out of each other for fun…. *shrug*

Tom, I’m the guy from “Down Under” who was mad with you for not having an easy to find “Register” option other than to ring into the USA. I see someone has given you the name of the instrument as the didgeridoo so I won’t have to. At least now I can “rant” back at some AV issues which are very dear to my heart, so stay tuned – I am registered NOW! 🙂
