AV Rant #259: Audiophile Demos

November 24th, 2011 2 comments

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. If you live in Perth or (probably) in Australia, you shouldn’t listen past the closing music. You’ve been warned. This week Liz and Tom tackle Google Music, audiophile demos, and Vudo-to-go. Liz has some thoughts on PETA, Tom breaks down the new NAD VISO 1 and BenQ Joybee GP2, and Liz announces the death of Wave – to a chorus of, “What?” Thanks for listening and don’t forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley! To see our (mostly) complete collection of show videos, click here. Download Tom’s FREE ebook Bob Moore: No Hero which is pretty much available everywhere. You can also check out Tom’s new book, Bob Moore: Desperate Times on Amazon (and soon everywhere). Friend Tom and Liz on Google+ to join in on one of our hangouts.

If you don’t listen after the music, you won’t hear us discuss our last topic. Soup to Nuts this week is a few gift suggestions (check the list below for links). How much do artists earn online? Liz and Tom dissect the article. Tom breaks down the new EMPtek speaker and sub offerings. Should you be excited? Star Trek versus Star Wars – Tom and Liz weigh in. A big thanks goes out to the HT Guys – not only are they HT guys, they are good guys. Thanks for listening and don’t forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley! AV Rant #257: Dongle

November 10th, 2011 Comments off

Podcast is a day late this week due to forces out of our control. AV Rant has a new Google+ Page – join in to be part of the discussion and hear yourself mentioned on the podcast. Also, don’t forget we host G+ Hangouts at least once a week (usually Tuesday 10:30pm EST). This week, Tom talks about the new Emotiva X-Ref Speakers. Liz likes the new Boxee announcement. Tom is unimpressed with Libratone’s new AirPlay equipped speakers. A new Yahoo! app reveals (to Tom at least) why Yahoo! is failing. Ultraviolet’s ultra-fail. Are companies being too responsive to customers? Soup to nuts comes from a call-in question. Thanks for listening and don’t forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley! AV Rant #256: Oh My

November 3rd, 2011 Comments off

Tom might be getting sick again, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be ranting. Lots of streaming news this week from Netflix, Redbox, Blockbuster, and Google. Chris had a completely different experience using the PS3 to stream content. Tom and Liz talk about Star Trek, Superman, interfaces, data caps, how Tom killed Steve Jobs, and Pete Townshend. Listener Henry points out a speaker deal on Monoprice. Tom’s take. Oh, and there is some news on Tom’s new book, Bob Moore: Desperate Times. Soup to Nuts is on buying your first projector on a budget – what to look for. After the break, a few pics. Thanks for listening and don’t forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley! AV Rant #255: Oreo S&M

October 27th, 2011 2 comments

You’ll have to get all the way to the end of the podcast to figure out the name. Sorry about that. Tom and Liz get their Netflix wish from listener Jason (thank you Jason). Speaking of Netflix, they lost a few subscribers. A Lego man washes up in Florida. Tom found a high-end/cost speaker which sends him on a rant. Meridian has released a “sub” that defies description. The video game industry might be getting a clue about piracy…or maybe not. Joss Whedon has Liz all excited about Shakespeare. Soup to Nuts is listener questions/comments from Alex, Simon, and Ahmed.
