AV Rant #245: Monkeys

August 18th, 2011 9 comments

A bit of an echo this time. Once you guys get Liz’s vintage headphones fixed, that won’t be a problem, right? Zediva needs to upgrade their service model and, according to Tom and Liz, their legal team. Hulu goes “international“. Google buys Motorola – what it means. Tom’s take on the NAD C 446. Liz’s final Soup to Nuts is on streaming front ends. Thanks for listening and don’t forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley! To see our (mostly) complete collection of show videos, click here. AV Rant #244: Too Much Coffee

August 11th, 2011 2 comments

Tom was a bit over-caffienated for this podcast so they went a bit long and had to cut the Soup to Nuts. Tune in next week for the conclusion of Liz’s streaming advice. Tom has a few things to say about the new Pioneer Elite SC-57 (specifically the amps), the Genesis 7.2f Loudspeakers, and HDMI. Liz on GoogleTV, movies in 2011, a CEPro article, and 3D glasses. Apparently, AV Rant broke TheSixtyOne.com. Tom and Liz complain that they didn’t have any takers on their Google+ Hangout but, right after the podcast, they had a great one with quite a few listeners (shout out to Chris C who needs to invest in a mic, Rich, and Kerry). Sharp and Pioneer resurrect the Elite line of displays, this time with LED, 240Hz processing, and yellow. Thanks for listening and don’t forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley! AV Rant #243: Stuck on Stuff

August 4th, 2011 16 comments

Part two of Liz’s Soup to Nuts on streaming this week is about storage. More than you ever wanted to know about servers, clouds, and NAS (links below). Tom has a few things to say about the entire “modular design” idea. Velodyne starts selling subs – directly. AppleTV allows ownership (again). Logitech throws a Hail Mary for the Revue. AT&T drops ESPN3D. Receives nearly 15 complaints. Thanks for listening and don’t forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley! To see our (mostly) complete collection of show videos, click here. AV Rant #242: Swearing

July 28th, 2011 2 comments

Tom couldn’t be more excited about this week’s podcast. For the first time in the four years of this podcast, Tom’s cohost is tackling a Soup to Nuts topic. That’s right, hear Liz’s first in a three part series on streaming content. This week it is on where to get it (links below). Also on the table, Tom talks about his $2k receiver comparison article, Liz hates on George Lucas, and Tom and Liz both ogle some cool installs. The Netflix horse twitched (Dreamworks on the way?) so Tom and Liz beat on it some more (2 million users lost?). Is streaming increasing or decreasing piracy? In sadder news, Tom’s laptop is now officially dead. Thanks for listening and don’t forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley! To see our (mostly) complete collection of show videos, click here. AV Rant #241: Put a Glove On

July 21st, 2011 2 comments

Sorry about last week. Tom did try. This week we hear about Tom’s adventure in lamp exchange, Liz and Tom weigh in on Google+, and a primer (of sorts) on Spotify. Netflix has changed their pricing, Tom has a new review in the works (Olive 4HD), and a bit on the $600 Receiver Comparison article. This week’s Soup to Nuts is part 4 (of four) of an interview with David Janszen. It’s all about electrostatic speakers. Thanks for listening and don’t forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley!
