November 25th, 2010 6 comments

Tom tails a car this week, just for the picture below. Tom’s take on the new Oppo BDP-93 and its dual HDMI outputs. Do you use motion processing? Hulu and Netflix change their prices. AV Rant #206: Welcome Liz

November 19th, 2010 4 comments

We’ve finally settled on a new cohost. Everyone welcome Liz Vinci to the podcast. And yes, she’s the reason we’re late this week (picking right up where Dina left off). We’re in the process of working out the kinks and getting Liz some decent recording equipment so bear with us as we work through all the audio issues. This week we learn a little about Liz, about what not to buy, and how bad Tom is at editing out curse words. The UK has a plan to throttle back certain websites if they don’t pay. Disney thinks that DVD sales are really down (duh). Tom continues to have Fios envy. We’re light on topics this week because Tom spent the last 24 hours in the fetal position. AV Rant #205: South of Gash

November 11th, 2010 6 comments

If you’ve been watching the Audioholics videos, you know Andrew Gash. This week he guest co-hosts to talk about Christmas, headphones, video games, and San Franscico. The search for a co-host continues and Tom hopes to have it locked down in the next two weeks. If you know someone that would be interested, have them contact Tom ASAP. This week, Tom and Gash talk about the ESRB and the Governator, Audyssey’s iPhone dock, and cutting the cord. Tom has a couple of suggestions for gifts (number 1, number 2), only one of which Gash thinks is cool. What do you know about noise-canceling headphones? Gash wants to know. Is Hulu killing “traditional” TV (and what is “traditional” TV anyhow)? Thanks for listening and don’t forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley! AV Rant #204: Fun Sized

November 4th, 2010 5 comments

Rob’s back – but maybe for the last time. Is Tom on the verge of a new full time co-host? Keep your finger’s crossed. Updates to Xbox Live break it – Rob provides a mini-review. Hulu may drop prices – Tom thinks it’s a good idea. What do you think of $7.99 streaming only Netflix? More rants on studios (should Google TV have to pay them?), the cloud (Tom loves it), and Zune. Who will make your next 3D glasses – Samsung, Gucci, or Oakley? Can you get a good sounding $2000 5.1 speaker setup? Tom thinks so. A controversial position on first time speaker buyers.
