AV Rrant 144: DPP

September 10th, 2009

ooVoo is definitely working now (though Dina spends a goodly amount of time pixelated). Can AV Rant be turned into a drinking game? Tom thinks so. Tom loves his 80″ projection screen – even more now that he spent the weekend on a 32″ CRT. Evan has a question, Tom has sort of an answer. Is Rock Band making more or less musicians? Vote now. 3-D is still a fad in Tom’s mind even though it sort of is doing what it says. Digital Personal Property – confusing or just retarded. Tom’s mad a RBH though he doesn’t exactly have love for Paradigm. Thanks for listening and don’t forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley.

Copper, it even makes the logo look better. Marantz is on to something!

So You Think You Can Dance! Not Dancing With the Stars :p Yeesh, Tom! Trying to discredit me by saying I recommended a crappy dance competition with washed up D-listers rather than a great dance competition with amazingly talented, young performers, eh?

I might have known Tom would get them mixed up. I actually think a lot of people do. And that only hurts So You Think You Can Dance because people don’t really know how fantastic it is! They just see Dancing With the Stars and think it’s the same thing!

So yes, the judges on SYTYCD can be annoying and unnecessary, but that’s what a DVR is for! The dancers themselves are utterly amazing; the choreographers are outstanding; the girls on the show are ridiculously hot; and Cat Deeley is a great host! This is EASILY the best talent competition on television and you’re missing out if you’re not watching it.

This is why Tom thinks everything on TV sucks: he won’t get out of his “comfort zone” :p Tom wants ME to man up? Dude, I’m just comfortable enough with my manliness that I can fully appreciate pure, amazing talent when I see it and I don’t have to hide behind some excuse of, “my wife made me watch it”.

Hey, Tom, what’s a quick-slant? An out-pattern? A post-in? Heck, we even learn those right away in Canadian Football! Man up indeed!

    lol

On another note, I am sure there is more than one “Rob”. I am just “Grammar Rob”; not “Rob the Pirate” 😀

Re: Rock Band vs. real instruments – it’s a GAME. Saying that Rock Band or Guitar Hero is discouraging people from becoming real musicians is like saying that Forza or Gran Turismo is discouraging people from becoming real drivers.

We play GAMES about music or driving because they are fun and we can do things in the game that we cannot do in the real world. We learn to play actual instruments and buy real cars for the one and only reason that men do ANYTHING: to get girls 😀

Botox = Botulism, not bovine toxin 🙂

Rob, I assume you saw the announcement about CableCards for all 7MC users (not just specific OEM PC models)?

I did, Andy S. Sadly, CableCard is useless to me up here in Canada. We do not use it at all, but it’s cool for all the HTPC guys in the US!

Central Server + HTPCs put on hold. Budget reallocated to obtaining last locally available Pioneer 60″ KRP-600M Kuro!!!

    w00t

    😀

Too bad my room isn’t even ready for it yet – lol. But I had to jump on it! $4200 Can after tax, delivery and environmental fee (damn you, mercury). But that was still better than importing from the US. And (big incentive) no worry about FedEx or DHL breaking it on its long journey across the border!

Funniest thing of all? Found the only local KRP dealer via the Pioneer Canada website. Place was called “Haney Sewing”! Wonder why I didn’t think to look for THAT store – lol.

So I won’t be able to mount it until my room is ready (and my mount arrives), but I’ll post a couple pics when it arrives on Tues.

    Yay

    😀

Rob, did you do that test to see if the HD DVD player was working or the TV? :p

lol ! Thanks, Justin, for pointing out my poor grammar 😀 I shall have to edit that caption 😉

On a related note, I haven’t confirmed that every feature and input is working on the Kuro. It is somewhat difficult to do so with the monitor still sitting in part of the box! But with no stand included, I must wait until the mount arrives. All of the Kuro’s controls and sensors are on the bottom and covered by the styrofoam packing material!
