AVRant #11: The Family That Kills Together, Stays Together
July 19th, 2007
Dina reveals her deep and unnatural love for Mario Bros, sniping, and Marky Mark. We discuss video games, their ratings, the target audience, and how Tom thinks you should get out of the video game closet. Is the correct Denon pronunciation revealed? Your guess is as good as mine. So far I’ve not been able to complete the interview. You’ll know when I know. Oh, and stick around for a little of Dina’s radio voice. See you next week!

You really should be relieved from naming the podcasts, Tom.
You looking for more responsibility around here?
Interesting discussion on the gaming. I feel worse than the actual games themselves is the online communication that goes on (read s-talk) during game-play. It is much more obscene than anything displayed on screen. I was party to a 14-year old girl playing a mature rated game where she talked smack of unspeakable sexual things. Racism, bigotry, mama insults, just about anything appalling that might get in an opponents head is commonplace.
That girl was probably an adolescent boy – they sound the same online…
This is true, they do sound similar. Though given that she liked to brag that she was a girl when she just “owned” you, as well as speaking on behalf of her own female genitalia quite frequently, I don’t think that was the case on this particular occasion.
Owned? Unlikely. pwned is more like it.
Hop you make a good point. But it just reinforces my assertion that the ultimate responsibility falls upon the parents. You can blame the manufacturers, retailers, and everyone else all you want but ultimately it is the parent that is letting that child play enough video games to get that good (let alone expose her to that sort of language). If that girl wasn’t playing that game smacking you down, what would she be doing? Torturing animals? Smoking pot? Hustling? Who knows. Not I and I’d bet her parents wouldn’t have an idea either.
i would write something meaningful, but i am off smoking crack, playing “M” video games, and serving my middle school daughter’s friends beer while they watch “R” rated movies. busy, busy, busy in the summertime.
i wouldn’t have to smoke so much crack if ONLY i knew how to pronounce de-non. then and only then will my life be complete…
oh, yes i forgot to mention that i keep my drugs in a chest OF drawers, not a chester drawers…
Lea, you sound like a great parent, just don’t forget the first hit is free after that the kids have to pay ;).
Where I come from they are called “Shiffarobes” in addition to “chestadrawers”.
Anybody heard of that?
Lee, only R? They’re in Middle school! Stop babying them! They are totally ready for NC-17!
don’t mean to dig up such an old rant, but what the hell is that in the background? Is that a leaf blower? Around 13-14 min mark it is noticeable.
Or a plane.
lol I still hear some planes where im at
