AVRant #111: Eco Echo
January 15th, 2009
New contest. If you are interested in a great deal, this is the podcast. Tom likes Horror meets Comedy even though they bleep. Tom needs to be bleeped. Video games don’t need more warning labels and Tom hates politicians. A brief foray into statistics. Are HTPCs a good idea right now? SageTV may have the answer to Tom’s extreme hatred of Comcast. Obama has already gotten on Tom’s bad side. Dina’s evil plan. Apple makes Tom happy and Tom makes Dina blush. Tom thinks Anthem’s room correction system is stupid. Dina prays for a hearing deficiency. The last word on CES. Thanks for listening and don’t forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley.

On the Horror Meets Comedy stuff, you can actually set it up to download next time you have your XBox on if you log into Live and go to this page:
http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/videos/media/ec1814d7-8c41-4a1f-b92a-f9af28086a10/?p=1&of=0&sb=2
Good point. What I’d like is a way to subscribe to the series so that it auto downloads new episodes without me having to “buy” it.
A la RSS for Xbox360… It is strange that you can’t subscribe, though I bet it’s because they give us 64k hard drives.
I agree. A subscription to certain content makes a lot of sense.
iTunes even offers season passes for network TV series for sale. You’d think MS would get their act together to sell seasons like that as well and the functionality would trickle down to some of this “free” content they are using to promote the value of Xbox Live. Live has a lot of TV series that you’d think selling whole seasons on Live would increase their revenue, not to mention making it easier on their subscribers.
On top of that, if you go to the Marketplace web-interface, the naming of the shows changes. This is just stupid as you can’t tell what you’ve downloaded or (for that matter) what you are going to download. Today, I went to the Horror Meets Comedy web-interface – no problem. Told me the names of each of the episodes and that I’d already downloaded it. The Guild interface, however, had all the names reduced to just an episode number (which isn’t all the informative) and my previous download history was deleted. Then there was the Christmas Special 1 and 2 with the difference being that 1 was SD and 2 was HD. The descriptions are even different. Does that mean there are two Christmas specials or is it the same one in two different formats? Who knows? Thank you M$ for giving me yet another reason to hate you.
Eco, is that all Panasonic? ahw man! 🙁
