AVRant #68: Deja Vu
The podcast that never ends (for us) begins (for you). Tom and Dina are a bit punchy after some technical malfunctions a la the ever “stable” Mac. Dina finally sees our listener-created picture (see below) and her reaction? Priceless. And then there were more technical issues (Dina had a key word cut off). Finally, the duo talks about important issues like AT&T’s U-verse, Dina tells you the importance of watts for a sealed sub, and Tom talks about sub matching. Kenwood and JVC are hitching up, the ACLU hates the Army (duh), Tom loves Gears of War, and GTA IV sold like a billion copies. That’s a lot of lunch money. Thanks for listening and don’t forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley.

If you could turn this picture sideways, Dina’s head would be arched towards the reader like ET.
PS. According to what I read on AT&Ts Uverse website and user guide, the system doesn’t seem to auto-erase your material… Have users reported something different?

Like I said on the podcast – yep they have. And no one was arguing with them which is why I included it. It sounded hokey to me too but whatever. One HD channel only is confirmed and it is enough of a deal-breaker for me (and just about anyone I’d imagine).
Wow, I tried to make it to podcast #10 a long time ago…but couldn’t. Nice to see nothing has changed x7.
Tom has some things right about Uverse but at least one big one wrong. The DVR discards recordings after 48 hrs.? Not. As Clint showed above this is not the case and I wasn’t sure since I have only had Uverse a week so I just double-checked the DVR; choices under Keep Until are Space Needed and I Erase. I even have Big Bang Theory and Star Trek: Voyager episodes since Monday as proof it works as advertised. Shockingly, Tom is wrong. He is correct about the single HD stream but it’s not killing me. As I came from Time Warner and their amazing 10 HD (or whatever) channels I’ll live with it for all the HD I now get. The cost savings is nice, too. They are also beta testing a two-stream system back east somewhere (don’t sneer, Tom, it solves the problem as put forth by yourself). It’ll work fine when the SD stuff is sun-setted and, as I said, it’s still sooooo much better than TWC.
Anyway, his rant about Uverse as a statement of fact is another example that continues to make me extremely dubious about anything he writes/says and I’m still taking Tom’s reviews/statements with a grain of salt. The only reason I checked out this ‘cast was the mention of Uverse in the show notes.
BTW, is Tom the most pronunciation-challenged person on Earth? First “duh-non” and now “fee-ohce”? Jeez-Louise! Who knows what all I missed in the past 60 podcasts?
He’s correct about ACLU people, though. They may be smart but “smart” does not equal “wise”.
ps, if Tom thinks he’s getting fiber-optic all the way to his DVR from, well, ANYONE he would be incorrect.
Asphinctersayswhat?
Whaaaat? The Middle Earth Paradigm episode. Sweet! See, boys and girls, this is the correct way to slam an opponent (without disputing them, I note). That’s why Clint is the MAN.
I made it all the way to the end, Yeah.
