Blu-ray is the Best
Just ask Sony
So, here’s what I think happened in the Sony boardrooms this Monday:
Suit 1: “Dude! We got pwned over the weekend! This Wal-Mart “not-so-secret” sale has really been a shot in the arm for HD DVD.”
Suit 2: “I know. And there is so much buzz about it that all those people that missed out on the deal are on the prowl for a HD DVD player.”
Suit 3: “No one is even talking about Blu-ray.”
Suit 1: “So, what do we do about it?”
Suit 4: “Um… we could lower the price of our players?”
Long pause
Suit 2: “Yeah RIGHT!!!”
Raucous laughter.
Suit 3: “How ’bout a media blitz? Let’s bombard them with Blu-ray commercials.”
Suit 1: “Yeah! Make sure they are all about the Pixar movies. Blackmail the parents into buying one just for the titles their kids love.”
Suit 4: “But surely people don’t believe that Pixar movies will be exclusive forever?
Pause.
CEO nods at security guard near by. Security guard and pal drag out Suit 4 kicking and screaming.
Suit 3: “That guy just never got it.”
Lots of nods of agreement.
Come on kids, this Blu-ray media blitz is a little thin. I’m seeing at least one (if not more) Blu-ray commercials PER COMMERCIAL BREAK. It’s a little obvious what they are doing – damage control. Plus their ads are so full of crap – “The BEST picture, the BEST sound…” No matter that 1080p is 1080p and that Dolby TrueHD is Dolby TrueHD no matter which disc it comes off of. It’s so stupid. But if you were wondering who was the “best,” it’s obviously Blu-ray – just ask Sony!
And all this time I thought Blu-ray was better because it used the blue diode ;).
I do think the tagline that the Blu-Ray movies play on Playstation 3 is a good move, even if I have no desire to purchase a PS3.
Small confession, I’m 27 and I love Pixar too. Samsung BD-UP5000 or bust.
