Holy CRAP! Robert, you are on a roll. Usually I ask permission before I publish but this was so well written and edited, I couldn’t help but put it directly on the site. Robert, you are the man!
Have you seen the new Comcast commercials? The ones where some dopey-looking person drones on and on in a conspicuously low-voiced, one note monotone with a psychedelic cartoon background moving in a frenzy behind them? Do you hate them? You should. They make me want to throw a squirrel through my TV screen. What I’m about to say is 100% the truth: If I am watching live, I will actually skip back 30 seconds on my DVR and watch the preceding ad just to avoid having to see or hear these rage-inducing, bile-raising, profanity-provoking corporate vomit piles. I ignore most commercials. I don’t believe any claim ever made in an advertisement. But once in a while, I will make note of a particular plug; not because I plan to purchase the subject of the promo, but because the advert in question ticks me off so much that I am sure to avoid the product/service at all costs! мебели пловдивZillionTV is one of those ideas that sounds almost too good to be true. Buy the box (with an estimated $100 startup fee) and with no monthly charges you get nearly unlimited access to shows on demand. Of course, we already have stuff like this including Roku and PlayOn and it is here now – not waiting for the fourth quarter of 2009 for a launch. If you read the info out there, it definitely sounds like more of the same. Ad supported, content partners, blah, blah, blah. While I’d like to believe we’ll see a whole new player at the table, I’ll believe it when I see it. Too much of what I’m reading about ZillionTV screams “Marketing BS, Ahoy!” and not actual functionality.
While I haven’t tried it yet, listener Andy sends in this:
I was just looking around in the community games (XNA) section of Xbox Live and came across TV Calibration. Looks fairly basic from the demos, but for 200 space bucks ($2.50), it’s an interesting use of the community game space.
Kind of an interesting use of XNA and it might be worth mentioning on the show for Xbox owners. I wish it had a few more tools, but it’s a good start.
Andy, that is a great find and something that I’m sure to try out very soon. Thanks for the heads up!
While I’m fairly sure I won’t be “twittering” all that often, I will make sure to twit (is that the right term? I’m such a twitter virgin) each of the podcast posting. For those that feel the need to hit refresh over and over waiting for the podcast to post, this should give your index finger a bit of a break. Who knows? Maybe I’ll get addicted to twittering and twitify each and every action I make? Is there protocols for such things? Do I need to censor myself? I don’t know. We’ll see. I’m sure my outspoken and techno-savvy fans will not hesitate to let me know.
I love me some t-shirts and can’t pass up a deal. Plus, I can’t stand how people charge $17-$20 for a shirt I know costs them like $7 tops to make. When I come across a deal, I can’t help but get excited about it. Here are a few for you geeks and the people that love you. Read more…
