AV Rant #240: Cat Bacon

July 8th, 2011 2 comments

Next week is sort of up-in-the-air so we’ll see what we can do. If you are a fan of Tom’s book, here is the Facebook page for you. This week Tom and Liz talk about the new Vizio CinemaWide displays. Is this a good idea? Do you want to control your apps while watching TV? Of course, they have to follow up on the MoviePass debacle. Facebook and Netflix can’t connect (correctly at least). PlayLater – a service that will never, ever make it out of beta. This week’s Soup to Nuts is part 3 (of four) of an interview with David Janszen. It’s all about electrostatic speakers. Thanks for listening and don’t forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley! To see our (mostly) complete collection of show videos, click here. AV Rant #239: Primed

June 30th, 2011 3 comments

This week Liz and Tom take on the new $50 unlimited movie deal. “Just” $50 a month and all the in-theater movies you want. They make a few suggestions on how this might actually sell. Tom has a point about Piracy and DRM, Liz has a point about violence in videogames (the ruling), and they both love getting email from listeners suggesting topics. Tom’s article on the Double Blind Test has two points – participants and “proving” the null hypothesis. This week’s Soup to Nuts is part 2 (of four) of an interview with David Janszen. It’s all about electrostatic speakers. Thanks for listening and don’t forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley! To see our (mostly) complete collection of show videos, click here. AV Rant #238: The Boot

If you are wondering what those weird silences are, ask Liz. Liz and Tom take on the topic of the death of the movie theater, part deux. Tom lets everyone know how 24 could have been the greatest show ever. Which cloud service is the best? What do you think? Google buys SageTV. This week’s Soup to Nuts is part 1 (of four) of an interview with David Janszen. It’s all about electrostatic speakers. Thanks for listening and don’t forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley! AV Rant #237: Static

June 16th, 2011 6 comments

No topics and Tom’s side of the audio is staticy. Sorry about that. Liz found a book she wants to share. Tom has a projector issue – followup coming. What is there to be excited about in new product releases? Not much (check out Audioholics.com for some of the recent things Tom’s been unimpressed by). Liz tackles some irony. Soup to Nuts this week is about calibrating your speakers (check after the break for the details). Thanks for listening and don’t forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley! AV Rant #236: Singing Sensation

June 9th, 2011 10 comments

If you don’t know what the title of this podcast is about, you didn’t listen long enough. A shorter one this week with only four topics. First, Liz has a rant on the Supreme Court. Tom has one on speaker manufacturers. How to make your digital music sound better. Is RAM really important? Soup to Nuts this week is about rear speakers (check after the break for the details).
