Note: There will be an extra podcast this week released tomorrow. It will be the full interview with David Janzsen – electrostatic speaker guru. Plus, podcasts will be released on Tuesdays from now on.
Tom wasn’t going to do a podcast this week but changed his mind at the last minute. Rob H. visits again and the two have a lot to talk about. Rob is interested in a study on piracy and how it effects movie ticket sales. The Oatmeal sums up how exactly piracy can be best fought. A California Senator is not ashamed to admit that he wasted almost 2 million dollars trying to ban video games. A bit on THX certification. This week in Netflix – all the stuff you won’t be able to access since the Starz deal ended. The FitDesk – exactly what your back didn’t need. This week’s Soup to Nuts highlights two different programs. First is Audio DiffMaker, a program to compare audio files for differences. Second is Harman’s How to Listen program. Both are free so try them out. Tom couldn’t get the Harman program to work on his Mac at recording time but downloaded it again later and it installed properly. More on this next week.

Welcome to the last podcast where at least one of the core AV Rant members will be standing in the states. Yes, we’re fleeing like rats off a sinking ship. Liz is off to London this weekend and is sort of stressed. Tom steps up and basically talks the whole time. If you are more of a Liz fan – don’t worry. She promises to be back in form next week (if she is around for a podcast – we’ll see how fast the Brits are at hooking up Internet). If you can’t get enough of Tom’s voice (there is probably a medical condition for that), head over to AV Week where he was a panelist in this week’s podcast. This week, Tom admits he was wrong (don’t tell his wife) about iCloud Match. Liz liked Tom’s article on Defining Confusing Audio Terms over at Audioholics. Why aren’t we shooting video in 120Hz? We need to get James Camereon on this one! Universal Remote Control tells it like it is and Liz thinks it’s an Onion article. Sony’s new game system (PSVita) is here and leads to a discussion on downloads versus buying physical media. For the Soup to Nuts, you get a pre-review of the OtterBox Commuter and Defender cases for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Full review including a giveaway to follow. Stay tuned! Also, check back here this time tomorrow for an interview with writer, director, actor, musician PJ Pesce! Thanks for listening and don’t forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley! Welcome Liz back. We’ve got a couple of things on the horizon including a potential interview with a film director and a guest spot for Tom on another podcast. This week, lots of listener questions/comments from Jason, Grant, Alex, and John. Whitney Houston passes and Sony…well, you can read about it here. Class act that company. How iTunes Match is making artists money…but is it enough? More on iTunes quality including compression and download policy. There is a new super tweeter in town, and it is totally cute…in a terrifying way. Onkyo’s new line of budget receivers is out and Tom is not very impressed. Tom is in love with Alan Parsons. Read his remarkably sane interview here. Who shot first? George weighs in. Thanks for listening and don’t forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley! Liz is off across the pond doing moving things so Rob H. steps in on short notice. They talk a bunch about streaming and piracy. Specifically about this article at Forbes which makes a lot of good points. Amazon Prime streaming is on the way as is a new streaming service from a partnership between Verizon and Redbox. Redbox is now the only kiosk rental service in town (I’m betting some of you were surprised that his wasn’t already the case). Tom reviews the new Chrome Beta app for Android and finds it, in a word, awesome. Emotiva has a new processor, the XMC-1, and consumer reaction has been mixed. But, of course, that could all change once it actually ships. Got a bit of change in your pocket and thinking of upgrading your speakers? Tom and Rob take you through some of the ways to audition speakers when you don’t have much to experience. Oh, and check out Brad Sucks. He totally doesn’t. Tom is back! You may rejoice or curse at your discretion. If you didn’t notice the SOPA message on the website, we went black for a day (and again next week). Liz has some thoughts on Spotify and Rdio. Audyssey is branching out and Tom doesn’t like it at all. Technology rules! Welcome to Mars and the future! Griffin Twenty – a product that Tom just can’t bring himself to get excited about without a price. We get some new Netflix jingles courtesy of Jackson (thanks man, they ROCK!). This week in Netflix – a review. Tom’s soup to nuts this week is how some speaker companies hate you. Others, however, don’t. Thanks for listening and don’t forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley!
