It wasn’t a Blockbuster; it was a neighborhood video store (this was 1987, before Blockbuster really took off). it was Robert Bork’s entirely nondescript video rentals which were leaked during his confirmation hearings (unsuccessful) for the Supreme Court.

There is an interesting moral here. You can discern something (or at least you can argue that you have discerned something) from the rental habits of famous people. And, if someone wants to be on the Supreme Court, one might argue that such insights are fair game. (Or not, but that’s another question for another day.) But what this has to do with companies maintaining lists of ordinary people is, I agree with you Tom, more than a little paranoiac.
