AV Rant #930: Baby with the Bathwater

September 5th, 2024

Tom had to leave before the end of this episode, and we’re a little rushed this week. But lots of questions answered. Plus, Lumagen announced new outboard video processor models: Radiance Pro 4140 at the “low” end, and 8K ArtisaN at the high end. And Denon’s new AVR-A10H Receiver model comes just short of what Rob’s been hoping for.

00:04:01 – What We Watched

Rob re-started Humans, and watched Immaculate. Tom’s watching the Paralympic Games, and also saw Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, and Prometheus.

01:48:31 – Nick: Reflecting Center Speaker

Grimani Systems announced their Reflectance System, which bounces a Center channel tweeter’s sound off of a large flat panel. Do we think it can work?

01:53:38 – Sasi: Screen Gain & JVC vs Epson

Why are screen gain measurements not more consistent? And is the JVC LX-NZ30 actually competitive with Epson’s 5050UB and LS11000?

02:02:34 – Andy: HDMI-ARC vs e-ARC

Can e-ARC provide advantages even over plugging sources straight into a Receiver?
