Clint’s List:
Action/Adventure: Empire Strikes Back
Reasoning: The feeling this movie evoked when Vader revealed himself as Luke’s father has been untouched for years. The ONLY movie that got very close was The Matrix when Keanu takes the pill and wakes up in the battery.
Comic Based Movie: Batman Returns
Reasoning: The only reason I chose this was because to me,. this represents a departure from cheesy (think Superman) hero movies to a more serious take on these classic superhero movies.
Comedy: Evil Dead 2
Reasoning: This movie to me was such an incredible departure from horror movies and to combine horror and comedy in this way was simply mindblowingly cool. This movie is for everyone who ever said “Why doesn’t he just…” In Evil Dead – he does it. Bruce Campbell is the ultimate badass.
Crime/Noir: Brick
Reasoning: I loved this movie. It’s hard to talk about film noir in terms of being “original” but their take on the style/genre was refreshing and successful. The Usual Suspects was a close second.
Drama (chick flick): Pride and Prejudice (1995)
Reasoning: I really loved this BBC version and to this day it’s one of the more entertaining films in my collection.
Horror/Thriller: Halloween
Reasoning: The original was simply incredible and in my opinion set the bar. Nightmare on Elm Street was close since it was such an original concept at the time.
Martial Arts: Iron Monkey
Reasoning: For some reason, this movie just stuck with me as being the perfect martial arts film. I also really love the black and white Zatoichi series about a blind Samurai. Just classy martial arts.
Musical: Moulin Rouge
Reasoning: Fresh. Original.
Sci Fi: The Fifth Element
Reasoning: This is actually my favorite movie of all time. It’s mix of comedy, action and intelligent dialogue took the genre to a new place.
Animated: Spirited Away
Reasoning: I have yet to see such an original storyline. Miyazaki is a genius.
Overall Favorite: The Fifth Element
Sentimental Favorite: Empire Strikes Back, Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Special Mention: The Matrix
I liked Iron Monkey as well but have you seen the preview for it? Talk about misleading. I don’t think the person that did the preview even saw the flick. Or perhaps they just had to make up the voice over from the footage or something. Weird.
Hey Tom, you said “You can make a good movie, or you can make a movie with a message.” but you liked V for Vendetta. Hmmm…
Pulp fiction is action adventure? I don’t know about that…
And not a single David Fincher movie on the list; for shame.
I did move Brick to he top of my queue based on your recommendations though.

Andrew’s List:
Action/Adventure: Die Hard
Ultimate guy movie and a blast to watch.
Comic Based Movie: Tie: Sin City/The Crow
I had forgotten about the movie The Crow until the podcast. The original was and still is amazing, but the sequels blow.
Comedy: Arrested Development
I know its a TV show that was short lived, but I think I have watched the whole series at least 4-5 times and never fail to find new, well written, jokes. If anyone hasn’t seen this I strongly recommend it
Crime/Noir: Reservoir Dogs
Love Tarintino and this is some of his best.
Drama (chick flick): Requiem for a Dream
I still remember the first time I watched this movie. The acting is top notch and the message is clear. Horrifying and inspiring at the same time.
Horror/Thriller: Se7en
This movie still creeps me out a bit. If you ask me Spacey is a little too good with that role…
Martial Arts: Ong Bak Thai Warrior
I just really enjoyed this one.
Musical: I avoid these…N/A
Sci Fi: The Fifth Element
Can’t go wrong with this movie. When it first came out I didn’t get it (guess I was too young) now I love the movie. The BD rerelease was a huge step up for those interested.
Animated: Koi Kraze
One of the best drama’s I have seen actually. It is a three disc series from Japan that delves into the taboo subject of incest. The voice acting is amazing and the characters are very engaging. I was extremely surprised an English dub was done considering the topic. One of the best drama’s I have ever watched even though it is an anime.
Overall Favorite: Pulp Fiction
Sentimental Favorite: The Original Star Wars movies and Alien
Special Mention: 12 Monkies
Action/Adventure: Lord of the Rings (trilogy)
Comic Based Movie: Superman
Comedy: Office Space
Crime/Noir: Brick
Drama (chick flick): Punk Drunk Love
Horror/Thriller: Blair Witch Project
Martial Arts: Kill Bill
Musical: Chicago
Sci Fi: The Matrix (trilogy)
Animated: The Incredibles
Overall Favorite: The Graduate
Sentimental Favorite: Star Wars (complete)
Special Mention: Reservoir Dogs (the movie that made me love movies)
