AVRant #5: Big ol hunkin amp

June 7th, 2007

Kurt finally gets a response to his question on what is most important for good sound, Tom gets angry about the Star Wars prequels and misquoting interviewers, they discuss amplifier power vs. speaker ratings, and how to recognize good music for evaluating speakers. For clarification, in the Newsweek article they were reporting on an incident that happened with a Wired magazine interview not a Newsweek one. Oh, heck, here’s the link. As promised, here’s the link for recommendations on Home Theater budgets.

Kurt’s call was absolutely hilarious – I was thinking the same thing as I listened to it: “Universal remote on the center channel to reduce noise???” Great.

Lea is turning out to be the third ‘invisible’ host – I’m hoping she’s going to make an appearance someday… If only to say something extremely incriminating “live” on the air.

And Dina – PRETENDING TO BE A BLIND PERSON… My image of you is shattered forever.

Yeah, Dina’s little blind person stunt alone probably racked up enough bad karma to justify getting stuck with me on a podcast.

IT WAS AN ASSIGNMENT FOR A COLLEGE COURSE!!!!!!!!!!!! Lea went with me as my “seeing-eye-person” or whatever and no one is picking on her! And she had to write a paper about it too!!!!

PS Lea’s “invisible” hosting does not feel that invisible to me! And I don’t think the AV world is ready for Lea “live.”

I think Lea should have a blog here… Yeah… and maybe Kurt. lol.

The director for Prisoner of Azkaban was not Guillermo del Toro as I thought but his good friend Alfonso Cuarón (who directed Y Tu Mamá También and Children of Men which I’m about to watch). Apparently, they are both friends with Alejandro González Iñárritu who wrote and directed Babel (haven’t seen that one yet) and 21 Grams (which was OK if a bit depressing). It seems that I’ve spent the last little while thinking these three were all the same person. Oops.

Tom, if you need someone to send you some big amps, maybe you can coerce Outlaw Audio to send you one of their new amps. http://www.outlawaudio.com/products/7900.html Do you think that’s enough power for you for now? They’ll probably make you send it back unless you write a glowing review. After all, you guys are paid off all the time, right? *grin*

Yep, big stacks of gear and money just laying around the house. You should see it. Well, when you give as many glowing reviews as I do, people just THROW gear at you. Well, not so much gear per se as return shipping labels and voodoo dolls. You can tell the depth of my wealth from the beat up ’96 civic I drive.

I’m shooting for reviewing the new Porsche Carrera convertible. They’re not getting THAT one back!

You KNOW I asked B&O if I could set up a review of their audio system in the Audi A8! It might take me 3 years to get the review done but I guarantee it’d be thorough!

I want to use this Audioholics stuff as stepping stone to begin reviewing credit cards. You know, AMEX, Visa, MasterCard. They all have several cards offering different levels of service. I am gonna be THEIR reviewer soon…….

That’s cool, the Treasury Department is having me beta test the new money that they print out every 5 years… I have to really use a lot of it as it’s all about wear and tear as well as customer feedback.

And ultimately, they get it back, so it’s a perfect arrangement!
