I cannot believe how much ignorance was pouring out of “Carson’s” mouth at Circuit City… “De-non” cracks me up… there is not debate, since even Denon’s USA President calls it “Denon” (the traditional, non-snooty-European pronounciation).

It sounds to me like Carson just didn’t want to be bothered. You should try the experiment again with someone more engaged, I think Carson would say anything to get you to go away. He didn’t even get a chance to upsell you, with the exception of the push for $170 installation.

That’s the double edged sword of not getting paid a commission. Good hourly wage=unbiased opinion. Circuit City hourly wage=indifference.

Dina…you have a podcast room, do you do any other podcasts? And, while I’m at it, what mics do you guys use?

I worked at my local Best Buy for about a year and a half in the home theater department. I refused to sell anyone Bose speakers. I had one guy walk out mad because he already had some and wanted to waste $3000 more for another room. Otherwise, everyone else seemed glad to know that I could sell them a better system for the same or less money. I was the exception to the standard sales guy, however. I worked there as a second job for fun, and I didn’t care about revenue, margin, etc. I did care about getting people audio and video that worked well for their budget. I think a lot of people liked that approach. Anyway, I’d be interested to see how Dina’s local Best Buy responds in the same test…

Since this Podcast was posted 2 days early for some reason, I’ll throw together an Ask AVRant Podcast with J and myself for Thursday. You can add to the list of father’s day gifts the recently price reduced HD DVD players and Blu-ray players which many people would enjoy even if they say they are waiting for the format war to be won (good luck with that). The outtakes at the end were there on purpose but won’t be a regular feature. Usually these things go as smooth as silk (wink, wink, right Dina?) so there aren’t all the interruptions that this one had. Plus, I usually cuss like a sailor so none of them would be appropriate for iTunes (nothing like adhering to someone else’s moral code). Look for the Ask AVRant episode on Thursday.

I posted it early because it was done… lol. I actually think there are a lot more listeners earlier in the week (per newsletter research, etc) so this was a cool opportunity to get it up on a Tuesday.

I’m a loyal listener of all 6 podcasts. Thought you’d like to know. I haven’t called in yet simply because I haven’t thought of a topic or question I’d consider “pod worthy”.

Looking forward to the day when Dina corrects the salesman/woman when she knows as much or more as they. Then by the powers of Grayskull we can refer to her as the Geek Godess of A/V. LOL.

eugovector-When Tom said my “podcasting room,” he said it with his sarcastic tongue firmly planted in his cheek. We were in my bonus room which is so wrong for getting good sound, even I know it. I hide away there because it is the only place that I can get away from the rest of the house. Before recording a podcast, I crank up the air condition in order to cool it off enough before I have to turn it off for the podcast. Because Tom can hear it and it makes him mad. The lights are a lovely fluorescent (think elementary classroom) and I turn them off. Because Tom can hear then and it makes him mad. We have an old computer (yes, it IS a Mac) up there with a printer and I turn them off. Because Tom can hear them and it makes him mad. So, I sit in the dark, sweating, staring at the wall and talking to Tom. Makes the time just fly by.

As far as what mics we use, Tom would have to tell you. It came in the mail along with these black boxes with lots of knobs. And no, I don’t do any other podcasts.

I bet Tom bought the mics from Carson at Circuit City.
