AVRant #80: A flying fig
More about the compression on the podcast. We are working on it. Denon came out with an update for their processor/flagship receiver. Firmware updates are scary. The pros and cons of upgradable gear. An update on Jaime’s flaming Onkyo receiver. Clint and Tom think he’s getting screwed. Sci Fi is doing us wrong. Punks. A short discussion about Hellboy. Nelson has a report from a brand new digital theater which is vastly different from Dina’s experience. It pretty much stumps Tom and Clint. A brief discussion about moiré. Mark wants to know why there isn’t a default for the proper calibration. Clint and Tom agree. Panasonic is coming out with OLEDs. Are they not dead? Could they be affordable? We hope so. Your listener who is interrested in a sub woofer (or two) might want to check these out:

they may (or may not) be Atlantic Technology close outs.
Sounds like SVS is just following the Apple model….
: )
It doesn’t look like any Atlantic Technology or Outlaw sub I’ve ever seen…
PS. These pics are awesomely funny!
Here is a big huge summary of a whole bunch of subs from some crazy internet people. They are ranked based on home theater and music performance.

I personally own the SVS PB12-Plus/2 and I think it works great for HT use, but I don’t use it for pure music. I was honestly surprised that it was ranked lower in the list. Oh well, good enough for me, and I think I am fairly picky… *shrug*
I own the JL Audio Fathom F-113. And its still on its shipping box waiting for the rest of the speakers/amp to be upgrated. Its really a SAD sotry. My Fathom has been in that shipping box for almost two years 🙁 (march 2009 will be two years).
Of course I have taken it out tweece to lesten to it. It sounds like the wolrd its cracking down around me and the hole earth is shacking. The bass is soo DEEP and Tight it makes the inside of my body hurt, I love it. But in its shipping box it will remain intill I get my dream speakers Paradigm Studio 100’ss and its matching center channel!!! with a Parasound Amp!!!
