BenQ Joybee GP1 Review

June 9th, 2009 1 comment

Loyal AV Rant listeners/readers will know that I got one of the BenQ Joybee GP1 projectors a while back in for review. It’s a small, portable projector designed for images up to 80″. Sure 80″ is the max but I’m not exactly about taking it easy on a projector am I? Read more…

Bing goes Plop

June 1st, 2009 2 comments

Bing, if you don’t know, is Microsoft’s new search engine. The point? To compete with Google of course. Want to Be Internet Famous?

May 15th, 2009 13 comments

Join me on AV Rant! Dina is going to be in and out for the next few months as summer tends to be hectic for her. That means I’ll be needing some help from time to time. Clint obviously is up to the task but I wanted to give a few of you a chance. What do you need? Some sort of mic (preferably not crap), some headphones, an ooVoo or skype account, and Audacity. A webcam is a plus. Send me an MP3 of you telling me why you should be my guest cohost in a minute or less at tom at avrant dot com.

Pocket Projector from BenQ Coming to AV Rant

May 14th, 2009 7 comments

No sooner do I order some blackout curtains for my HT than I get an email from BenQ about a pocket projector. Do I want a review unit? Yes I do! The Joybee GP1 is on the way. It’s only SVGA 4:3 native but should be fun for parties. Look for a review in the near future. There’s a commercial about it over at YouTube if you have 4 minutes to waste.

PS3 On The Way!

May 7th, 2009 16 comments

Thanks to some very enterprising and generous listeners, I’m now the proud owner (as soon as it gets here) of a PS3. Thanks to all that chipped in and helped out (especially Rob). Now, let the suggestions fly as to what you’d like to see done with the PS3 – games to play, movies to review, features to test… let me know. I’ll tell you now that I have a friend with the Orange Box so I might pick that up first for a little Team Fortress and because I’m guessing I can get it on sale these days.
