AVRant #266: Honey Ryder

January 12th, 2012 2 comments

Second podcast of 2012 and we’re already innuendo-ing. Is that a word? Anyway, in today’s podcast, Rob H. is back on the air and as prolific as ever with a soup-to-nuts on soundproofing your room so your neighbors still like you when you up the bass. Also on the topics list:

Holiday sales of Consumer Electronics devices fall, but that’s only if you don’t count all the consumer electronics most of us use on a daily basis. Plus some positive news if you are the  maker of a very large TV. Speaking of TVs, it’s CES and everyone is showing us their new prototype. Check out

Sony’s “Crystal” LED display and Sharp’s 3D-capable 80 inch display. Further CES coverage (even if it’s quite boring) can be found on audioholics.com.
Liz drools over all 22 Bond Movies in one Blu-Ray box set and overshares. This week in Netflix news: Official launch in the UK and Ireland, and an additional waiting period to receive new releases in the mail. Liz and Rob aren’t great fans of the new Polaroid camera, but think maybe there’s hope for Polaroid yet. Thanks for listening and don’t forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley! AV Rant #261: YMMV TL;DR

December 8th, 2011 Comments off

Were you wondering if Liz was the perfect woman? She makes her case on this week’s podcast. Tom has a few things to say about subs (most importantly, Audioholics.com is giving one away). Would you rent a toy for your kids? Tom got a tweet from @loudspeaking (great twitter handle btw) about his new Bob Dylan box set. David sent us a couple of articles that were way too hard to read. Kindle Fire or the new Nook Tablet – Liz weighs in. Blu-ray was cracked…despite Intel’s claims. Who was the worst CEO of 2011? Couldn’t be Reed Hastings could it? Tom and Liz don’t think so. Tom and Liz discuss eBooks vs. paper. Thanks for listening and don’t forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley! To see our (mostly) complete collection of show videos, click here. AV Rant #260: Vicodin Makes Her Slur

December 1st, 2011 Comments off

Liz had a bit of an accident this week and is pushing through the pain to get this out to you in a timely manner. This week Tom has more to say about NAD (Liz says he’s feeding the trolls), Google Music, and Steam. Tom and Liz discuss a new AV Rant tagline. Someone will win something very…unimpressive probably. Google Maps goes inside, Hulu goes to Germany, Tom talks about the new Sony 4K projector, and Emotiva releases a new, surprisingly small, amp. This week’s soup to nuts comes from a Twitter question – can receivers be paired with speakers to affect the sound? Thanks for listening and don’t forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley! Liz and Tom dissect the article. Tom breaks down the new EMPtek speaker and sub offerings. Should you be excited? Star Trek versus Star Wars – Tom and Liz weigh in. A big thanks goes out to the HT Guys – not only are they HT guys, they are good guys. Thanks for listening and don’t forget to vote for us at Podcast Alley!
