New Music from Ted

March 18th, 2009

Listener Ted doesn’t like the AV Rant music. He’s not the only one. Unlike the rest, however, he’s done something about it. Ted has sent me a few low res songs for possible use for the podcast. Listen at your leisure below and then vote in the poll on your right.

i go with song three barely. The first two i do not like for an intro, and the third is ok. I like the song you already have, but i have a hip-hop bias.

Golly – I feel kind of bad because I had to vote, “None of the above (I just like to bitch)”.

It’s not that I dislike any of the songs. It’s just that none of them really suit the AVRant Podcast. I’m impressed with Ted’s work, but none of the three songs here really stand out in a way that says, “this is perfect for AVRant”.

I’m not really a fan of the current music. I don’t hate it and I actually like (and am used to) the short non-vocal intro at the very beginning of each podcast. It’s the outro music that needs a change.

But I can’t go and vote for one of Ted’s songs here when they don’t really suit the tone of the podcast. Again, impressive work and kudos to Ted for making and submitting some original music, but I would rather leave the music as is until a better fit is submitted 🙂

Thanks, Rob and Jayson for your comments! Rob, I’m glad you like the songs (even if you don’t think they fit the podcast). Thanks for voting anyway!

    For sure, Ted!

I’m assuming you had already composed these works prior to submitting them for consideration as AVRant’s music. With the skill you’ve demonstrated, I’d be really keen to hear what you might cook up with a song written specifically for this purpose. That’s a tough challenge, to be sure, but one positive is that it need not be a full length 2+ min song (although sometimes that’s paradoxically even harder, isn’t it 😉 ).

When I brainstorm about the sort of music I would select for AVRant, I focus on the personality and style of the presentation. The podcast is about a healthy dose of sarcasm, but with a clean and humourous slant. I wind up thinking of a sort of Will Smith type vibe. Upbeat, approachable, family-friendly, but with a bit of sarcasm and certainly some humor thrown into the mix. I’m not sure if that helps in any way, but perhaps you might use it for some inspiration 🙂

Rob, you’re right, these songs were recorded 6 years ago, but your idea of writing one specifically for the podcast is very intriguing! I think you summarized the vibe of the podcast very accurately (except for maybe the “clean slant” part, what with the recent references to butts and racks ;-). And you’re right about shorter sometimes being more difficult than longer–it’s hard to “kill your babies” as Stephen King likes to say.

Tom, Dina, you guys want a new song written with AVRant in mind?

I say keep what you got, Tom. It wouldn’t be AVRant without it.

I’m actually a fan of #1 from about 0:30 onward… Even has lyrics like “turn (burn?) up the show”

If you haven’t listened to it past 0:30 try it again…

With that said, I’d love a playful, Will Smith-esque intro written just for AV Rant. I mean, who wouldn’t?

The First 30 seconds remind me of Naruto the Anime Series.

Nice songs also de agree with Rob not for the podcast. But it is a good idea to create one for the show, it may be to much of us to ask for such a thing.

Thanks, Clint. You guys can definitely chop the songs up so they fit.

Lyrics are “burn up the show, now reload.” 😉
