Want to Be Internet Famous?

May 15th, 2009

Join me on AV Rant! Dina is going to be in and out for the next few months as summer tends to be hectic for her. That means I’ll be needing some help from time to time. Clint obviously is up to the task but I wanted to give a few of you a chance. What do you need? Some sort of mic (preferably not crap), some headphones, an ooVoo or skype account, and Audacity. A webcam is a plus. Send me an MP3 of you telling me why you should be my guest cohost in a minute or less at tom at avrant dot com.

Whelp, I have sent in my audition! Really? Rob tried out? No way! Who’da thunk it?

    :p

Seriously though…where is everybody? It’s like I’m the only person commenting on the site these days! I know I’m verbose, but I hope I didn’t chase everyone else away ๐Ÿ™

And specifically, where is Raul in HD? I’m kind of worried about him…haven’t seen his comments here for a while now…

I tweeted Tom that I would definitely be trying out; was away from any recording equipment this weekend so will get to it this week.

Clint, is there ever a line between the two?? =D

Don’t worry Rob, you’re not scaring anyone away. Well, maybe Raul ๐Ÿ˜‰ . Keep those entries comming guys. I’ll be listening to them later this week (if I can get the time) and hopefully have some news next week.

As soon as my wife is out of earshot, I’ll record my demo and send it in.

Hey! Good to see Raul in HD is back! ๐Ÿ˜€

I caught the early podcast…now I’m like an American Idol contestant! Will I win? Will I be sent packing? I can barely contain the nerves! I better get a Wii Vitality Sensor to help me relax.

Hey Rob! good to be back, I was taking a HT Podcast vacation. Wanted to learn about DSLR Camaras so I was listening to a Photography Podcast. But after listening and learning enough, came running back cuz they would not talk about Subwoofers and bass traps. Man I do love my Hz.

Hey I want to be Internet famus, I’ll would be the perfect co-host. But sadly dont have the gear needed.

mperfect, I just used a Logitech headset (not expensive at all), my laptop, Skype and Audacity. You could hear some hiss in the background due to my low quality sound card, but it wasn’t too bad.
So I think as long as you use a headset (one that is compatible with Skype) or a mic that is good enough to use for something like VoIP, it should be fine. Some people try to use the mic that is built into their laptop or monitor, which usually sounds horrible.
Easiest thing to do is to just use Audacity and record your own voice on the Skype test call. Play that back and see how it sounds and if it sounds ok to you, it should be fine for the podcast ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for the tip, Rob. I almost pulled the trigger on that Behringer podcast kit, that looked pretty sweet and was fairly reasonable. I’m not sure my wife would necessarily be down with me dropping $100 + cam for one podcast, but maybe I could launch a recording career with it too. Or I could even start my own podcast, but I’d probably talk about a/v more than anything else, so that’d be a moot point.
